Ezz Steel the largest of the Arab companies in production and Saudi Hadeed the largest one in growth in 2007

Its production amounted to 4.8 million tons of long and flat products, followed in the second rank by Saudi Hadeed with a production figure of 4.7 million tons. The number of the companies which produced more than 900 thousand tons were five companies among which there were three companies of which each produced one million tons. These companies are in order: the Libyan Iron and Steel Company which ranked third among the largest companies in production in 2007, followed by Arcelor-Mittal Annaba in Algeria and SONASId in Morocco. The number of the companies which produced more than 500 thousand tons but less than 900 thousand tons each were five companies. The total production of the Arab companies of long and flat products in 2007 is estimated to be slightly more than 23 million tons, according to the initial data of the Arab Iron and Steel Union, of which 4.4 million tons of flat products, that is, about 19% and the rest were long products. While Ezz Steel was ranked first in producing flat products with a figure of 1.7 million tons, followed by Saudi Iron and Steel Company with a figure of 1.6 million tons, one of the highest growth rates achieved in 2007 compared with 2006 was achieved by Saudi Iron and Steel Company which achieved a production increase of about 800 thousand tons, that is, with a growth rate of 20% as a result of coming on stream of a number of the new expansions in 2007.
