 UAE's Emirates Steel Industries launches section mill

 UAE’s Emirates Steel Industries plans to complete hot trials at a section mill with a capacity of 1 mt by end-April. Around 20 t of trial production has been sold by now, a company source says.
Emirates Steel Industries has already signed a contract with Italy’s Danieli to upgrade two electric steel complexes in order to expand their joint capacity from 2.8 mt to 3.4 mt. The project is planned to be finished by November 2012.
The company has not yet chosen general contractors to build a flat product plant which will be equipped with a DRI module (2 mt), an electric steelmaking complex (2 mt) and an HR mill with the same capacity. Proposals are still under review, and the contract is supposed to be signed in May. The company plans to finish the project in H2 2014.
The plant manufactured around 1.95 mt of long products in 2011. The production target for 2012 is set at 2.1 mt, the company's representative comments.
Emirates Steel Industries sells 80% of the output domestically and exports the rest to the Middle East.
